Animal Chiropractic

Welcome to our office, where we specialize in animal chiropractic care by appointment. We proudly serve Thurston County and surrounding areas. Our goal is to support your pet’s health and mobility through gentle, effective chiropractic care.

Please note that we are not a veterinary clinic, and animal chiropractic services are designed to complement—not replace—routine veterinary care. We strongly encourage regular checkups with a licensed veterinarian and work closely with local veterinary professionals to ensure your pet receives comprehensive, high-quality care.

To help you and your pet get the most out of your visit,

please review the following animal chiropractic appointment guidelines:

  • Veterinary Referral: A referral from your veterinarian is not required but is strongly encouraged to support coordinated care.

  • Cats: All cats must be safely secured in a carrier for their appointment.

  • Dogs: Dogs must be on a leash (maximum 6 feet) at all times, including entering and exiting your vehicle, to ensure safety for all.

  • One Pet Per Appointment: Please bring only the pet scheduled for care, as space in our clinic is limited.

  • Be Mindful of Others: Not all visitors are comfortable around animals—please remain aware of your surroundings at all times.

  • Pet Hygiene: Cleanliness is essential in our dual human and animal healthcare environment. Please ensure your pet is clean and promptly clean up after them if needed.

  • Aggressive or Reactive Dogs: If your dog has a history of biting, barking, or lunging, please bring a muzzle. Muzzles are also available in-office. For safety, we may require a muzzle if any signs of aggression are observed.

  • Anxious Pets: If your pet is nervous, let us know! We can arrange a clinic visit ahead of time to help them feel more comfortable.

  • Arrival Instructions: Please call us upon arrival. We will notify you when we are ready to bring your pet inside.

  • Limited Space: Due to space constraints, only one pet owner may attend the appointment unless pre-approved. If assistance is needed, one additional person may help handle your pet, but only one individual may be present in the treatment room with Dr. Cordis.

  • Children Policy: Children are not permitted in the adjustment room, as increased activity and excitement may distract your pet during treatment.

What is Animal Chiropractic?

What is Animal Chiropractic?

A pediatric patient is holding her puppy in her lap, while the doctor is performing a chiropractic animal adjustment to the puppy

Animal chiropractic care focuses on identifying and correcting abnormal movement in the spine and how these restrictions affect the nervous system and overall body function.

By restoring proper motion, chiropractic adjustments can help support your pet’s mobility, comfort, and overall wellness.

While chiropractic treatment for pets is not a replacement for traditional veterinary medicine, it serves as a valuable complementary therapy.

We work alongside your veterinarian to provide additional support, helping expand diagnostic insight and treatment options for your pet’s health.

What is a subluxation?

What is Animal Chiropractic?

A dog is laying half way inside and out side his bed. Showing that dogs can need chiropractic care too.

In animals, subluxations (spinal misalignments) can lead to a variety of symptoms that affect comfort, mobility, and overall function.

Common signs include pain, reduced mobility, abnormal posture, and decreased performance or activity levels.

Pets experiencing back pain or spinal dysfunction may show subtle changes, such as reluctance to move, refusal to work or exercise, stiffness, or unusual posture.

Recognizing these early signs can help ensure your pet receives appropriate animal chiropractic care and support.

Causes of Subluxations

Subluxations (spinal misalignments in animals) can develop from a variety of everyday and environmental factors. Common causes include:

  • Trauma or Injury: Falls, accidents, or sudden impacts can disrupt proper spinal alignment.

  • Medications (Narcotics): Certain medications may affect muscle tone and movement patterns, contributing to dysfunction.

  • Transportation Stress: Frequent travel or long periods in vehicles can place strain on your pet’s spine.

  • Birthing Difficulties: Complications during birth can lead to early spinal misalignments, especially in young animals.

  • Lack of Movement: Limited activity or prolonged confinement may reduce joint mobility and spinal health.

  • Aging: Natural wear and tear over time can contribute to stiffness, degeneration, and subluxations.

  • Sport and Performance Activities: High-impact or repetitive movements in working or athletic animals can increase the risk of spinal stress and misalignment.

Understanding these causes of subluxation in pets can help pet owners take proactive steps to support their animal’s mobility and overall wellness through animal chiropractic care.

Symptoms to look for

Causes of Subluxations

A dog specifically a golden retriever laying on his side, with his eyes closed receiving a chiropractic adjustment to his shoulder from a chiropractor

Subluxations (spinal misalignments) can affect your pet’s movement, behavior, and overall comfort. Common symptoms to look for include:

  • Abnormal Gait: Changes in the way your pet walks or runs, including limping or uneven movement

  • Reduced Performance: Decreased ability or willingness to exercise, work, or play

  • Changes in Behavior: Irritability, withdrawal, or unusual reactions to normal activities

  • Undefined Lameness: Limping or discomfort without a clear injury or diagnosis

  • Altered Sitting Position: Sitting unevenly or favoring one side of the body

  • Sensitivity to Touch: Discomfort or pain when certain areas are touched or handled

  • Shortened or Uneven Stride: Noticeably shorter steps or restricted range of motion

Recognizing these early symptoms of spinal misalignment in pets can help you seek timely animal chiropractic care, supporting better mobility, comfort, and long-term wellness for your pet.

The adjustment

A dog laying on his stomach sticking his tongue out. He is getting a chiropractic adjustments from and animal chiropractor.

Spinal realignment in animal chiropractic care is performed through a precise technique known as an adjustment.

This involves a quick, controlled thrust applied along the natural plane of the joint.

An adjustment is a specific, high-speed, low-force movement designed to restore proper motion to restricted joints.

The technique gently moves the joint slightly beyond its normal range—without exceeding its natural anatomical limits—to improve mobility and nervous system function.

These adjustments are performed by placing the hands or a specialized instrument directly on the affected vertebrae, ensuring accurate and targeted care for your pet.

Geriatric & sporting animals

Dr. Cordis who is a chiropractor is performing a chiropractic adjustment to a horse. The horse is standing the stable.

Animal chiropractic care can significantly improve the quality of life for senior (geriatric) pets, helping them live a more active, comfortable, and pain-free life.

Regular chiropractic adjustments support joint mobility, reduce stiffness, and help manage age-related changes in the spine and nervous system. Ongoing care is also important in helping prevent the buildup of subluxations (spinal misalignments) over time.

For sporting and active animals, chiropractic care plays a key role in restoring and maintaining flexibility, improving range of motion, and supporting overall performance.

Whether your pet is a working animal or a high-energy companion, regular adjustments can help them achieve and maintain peak physical performance while reducing the risk of injury.
